Webinar: Designing Community-based Solid Waste Systems for Sub-urban Areas
Like many other cities, Freetown is experiencing challenges in waste collection and treatment in "hard to reach areas", which are characterized, among other things, by a lack of infrastructure and accessibility. To overcome this challenge, the city is designing a decentralized waste management system, where local communities will be provided with the necessary skills and equipment to manage most of their waste locally, only relying on municipal waste removal for residual waste.
This approach is expected to provide waste services at an affordable cost for vulnerable communities, as well as creating jobs and increasing composting and recycling.
Join us to learn more about how local communities are being actively involved in the design of the new waste system to create more sustainable solutions.
