Ambient Monitoring of Methane and Management of Fires in Landfills

In the absence of scientific landfills and appropriate waste processing units, decomposition of mixed waste causes major odour hazards and landfill fires. Fires and odour emissions in the landfills are a constant source of nuisance, which only gets accentuated in thickly populated areas. Central Pollution Control Board provides guidelines for odour monitoring and management for systematic collection of data in order for ULBs to deal with odour monitoring and management of landfill fires. Keeping the guidelines in mind, the webinar looks into procedure for monitoring odour and managing fires at the landfills.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Surface monitoring of landfills
  • Management of Landfill fires
  • Controlling odour at waste processing/ disposal facilities

This webinar took place on November 17, 2017,  at 10 am India time and was organized by TERI on behalf of the CCAC Waste Initiative.
