Municipal Solid Waste Knowledge Platform

The IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies has created three guidelines on intermediate municipal solid waste treatment technologies. 

The guidelines discuss:

1. Main features of the technologies and its advantages and disadvantages
2. Pre-condition for sustainable use of the tecnlogies. Description of the key criteria to assess in the local context: social conditions, public awareness and cooperation of residents, institutional aspects, financial aspects, governance capability, and technological aspects. 
3. Technical process of each technology
4. Case studies in Asian countries

The available guides are listed below.

2. Composting
3. Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT)
